SERGIO “Kun” AGUERO – the EPL will miss Him!

Yesterday was an emotional day for the blue half of Manchester . The red half could only watch in envy as the so called ” Noisy Neighbours” lifted yet another trophy. At the rate at which Manchester City are going, Manchester United fans will have to get used to this shift in power dynamics. Casting envious glances has become the new norm for them. But even those fans with the coldest hearts could not help but applaud the departing hero , Sergio ” Kun ” Aguero, and what a way to depart. Two goals in a 5-0 routing of poor Everton were the perfect farewell signature for the lethal striker.

It can truly be said, ” He came , he saw and he conquered !” . His name will be permanently etched in the football history of Manchester City and the English Premiership. He is simply a legend, an icon.

In the hearts of Manchester City fans , Sergio will always have a special place. He is a man who changed the script for the club with that dramatic goal in 2012. Going toe to toe with city rivals , Manchester United, City had a superior goal difference. All they needed to do was to win their match or simply match Manchester United’s result. It looked straightforward except that Queen Park Rangers who had nothing to play for were determined to live up to the ” Spoilers tag “. They led 2-1 in time added on and to add to the drama, Manchester United had won their match 1-0 against Sunderland. Heartbreak…well almost.

In came Dzeko and the mercurial Mario Balotelli. Dzeko equalised to make it 2-2 but for the title to move to the blue half of the capital for the first time since 1968, City still needed another goal. The tension was unbearable, all the neutrals willed City to have one more push. In the last minute of time added on , it happened!

Balotelli received the ball , went down under a challenge but he still managed to toe poke the ball into the path of Aguero. Time almost stopped, i was watching the match on Television and the Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler immortalised that moment.. ” Aguerooooooooooooooo!!!”, he screamed. Aguero did not disappoint! The legend showed amazing composure in such a tense situation. He took a deft touch and shifted the ball past a defender. With one swing of that deadly right leg, he buried the ball past the goalkeeper.

He took off his shirt and ran away in celebration with his teammates in hot pursuit. It was the best of times for the the Sky Blue fans but the worst of times for the Reds. This is why football is such an enthralling sport. Anything happen, it is never over until it is over. As we often say, ” Football can kill you real death ” The contrasting emotions of the fans in that one iconic moment can explain why football is not for the faint hearted.

From the brink of a heart breaking draw which would have surrendered the title to Manchester United, Manchester City were now Champions for the first time since the 1967-68 season. For that moment alone, Aguero will always be a Hero in Manchester. He went on to win four more titles scoring over 247 goals in 10 glorious years of service.

Since the Abu Dhabi money started flowing in, Manchester City has had many quality players . There have been many heroes on the pitch, legends such as Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Fernadinho, Kevin De Bruyne among others. All these will be cherished and remembered by all the ” Blues Fans “. Aguero however will be remembered not only as a legend but also for that iconic moment in the dying minutes of the 2011-2012 title challenge. He simply changed the script !

” I have scored many goals but i will always remember that one. I will never forget the commentary as well !” he said in an interview with the commentator himself, Martin Tyler. It was an emotional interview.

As he departs for challenges anew, i can only say “He came, he saw and he conquered!” I wish him the best in his next endeavours, he will be missed !

  1. Yes, indeed. He will remain a celebrated idol for MC. Hope he continues his goal scoring exploits at Barcelona who do not have a quality all out striker. sad that he left MC with an egg on his face following the 1 nil loss to the Blues, Chelsea in the Champions league. Guordiola got it all wrong with his team selection – leaving out Kun Aguerro or even Jesus was his downfall. football is not about philosophizing but needs pragmatism. credit though to Tuchel for the masterclass by his team.
